Thompson & Knight LLP
White-Collar Criminal Litigation
Thompson & Knight attorneys have a proven and extensive track record in white-collar criminal litigation. Our attorneys have represented individuals and business entities in many different forums where criminal issues have been raised, including internal investigations that raise potential criminal exposure, white-collar criminal defense, regulatory and administrative proceedings, forfeiture, and grand jury compliance. They utilize their comprehensive and extensive trial and advocacy experience in this area of the law in combination with keen analysis, careful preparation, and practical skills to vigorously defend our clients.
The Firm has extensive experience defending federal and state white-collar criminal prosecutions. Our attorneys have been involved in virtually every aspect of criminal litigation and related civil proceedings, including, but not limited to, fraud, financial crimes, tax related offenses, public corruption, antitrust, false claims, real estate, health care, environmental, energy, civil rights, labor relations, insurance, obstruction of justice, conspiracy, trade secrets, securities, and government contracts. We also represent clients involved in "whistle blower" suits against public and other employers, allegations of fraud in domestic and international business transactions, and questions of insurance coverage in these circumstances.
Our attorneys understand that internal investigations can, and often do, create tension between board members, management, audit firms, and government regulators. Companies and their principals turn to Thompson & Knight because of our broad-based experience with each of these groups and our ability to address and solve the difficult issues that companies experience when investigated. Our attorneys have been involved in a number of Sarbanes-Oxley internal investigations, including investigations related to allegations of bribery and corruption, health care fraud, securities fraud, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act issues, and self-dealing.
Our attorneys include former federal and state prosecutors who have acquired extensive practical experience in assertively representing individuals and companies during investigations and trials. They regularly defend companies, officers, and directors in formal and informal civil and criminal proceedings before the Securities and Exchange Commission; in matters involving the U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, and antitrust enforcement divisions of several states; as well as industry self-regulatory groups such as the NYSE and NASD.
