Jim Richardson handles complex civil litigation and trials and has done so throughout his professional career.
A very active trial lawyer, Mr. Richardson is listed among the top lawyers in Central and West Texas in the practice area of general civil litigation, as researched by Law & Politics Magazine. In 2006, 2007, and 2008, he was named a “Super Lawyer†by Texas Monthly Magazine. A trial lawyer in Austin since 1985, he was formerly with Fulbright & Jaworski, L.L.P. in Houston, Texas.
His clients have included partnerships, state and national banks, building contractors, telecommunications companies, executive jet services, insurers, executors and trustees, lawyers, doctors, and firearm manufacturers, among others. He handles trials in selected family law matters.
Mr. Richardson is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is also Board Certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in Boston, Massachusetts. He was Editor in Chief of the Tulsa Law Review and named Outstanding Law Graduate by the Oklahoma Bar Association, an annual award limited to the top three law graduates statewide.
Mr. Richardson currently serves on the Board of Examiners of the National Board of Trial Advocacy, a Division of the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification. He has twice authored advanced evidence examinations for the certification of civil trial specialists by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, including the 2009 national examination. He is a past member of the State Bar of Texas Committee on Administration of the Rules of Evidence.
In 2005, he was named a Master of the Robert W. Calvert Chapter of the American Inns of Court, an honorary society dedicated to enhancing the skills and professionalism of lawyers. From 2000 to 2003, he served on the Committee on Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct of the State Bar of Texas. He served a six year term on the District 9A Grievance Committee of the State Bar of Texas, chairing a panel of that committee in 2003. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Civil Litigation Section of the Austin Bar Association.
Mr. Richardson is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, past Member of the Board of Directors of the Austin Bar Association, and Founding Life Fellow of the Austin Bar Foundation. He has served on the Faculty of the Advanced Civil Trial Course of the State Bar of Texas and similar programs on topics of evidence and trial advocacy. He is recognized in the practice area of general civil litigation by Who's Who in American Law, a biographical reference to the nation's leading attorneys.
