Michael L. Slack focuses on the most challenging and demanding areas of civil litigation, including aviation law and product liability cases against major U.S. corporations. Slack’s aviation law experience includes more than 25 years of complex litigation arising from air crashes. His recent commercial aviation cases include the crashes of American Connection Flight 5966, American Airlines Flight 587 and American Airlines Flight 1420.* He also has successfully obtained recoveries in numerous product liability cases against aircraft and component manufacturers.

Slack was the 1997 President of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA) and he continues to serve on the Board of Directors for TTLA. He works actively with the Texas Legislature through TTLA to protect individual legal and consumer rights. He is board certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. A member of many legal associations and national, state and county bar associations, Slack has served as chair of the Aviation Law Section for the American Association for Justice (formerly Association of Trial Lawyers of America). He is a member of the Lawyer Pilots Bar Association, the American Astronautical Society and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). In 2002, the AIAA named Slack Associate Fellow, an honor held by only a few attorneys.

NASA Aerospace Senior Engineer
Prior to his legal career, Slack was a senior aerospace engineer with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Houston, working from 1974 to 1980 on the Apollo-Soyuz and Space Shuttle programs. He received special commendations from NASA for his contributions. Slack received his law degree from the University of Texas at Austin and was admitted to the bar in 1983. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in aerospace engineering from Texas A&M University. He remains licensed as a professional engineer and as a pilot.
